Are Slotted or Drilled Rotors Worthwhile for Towing?.

Jun 15, 2019 As OEM ones are quot;fullquot; and don#39;t have areas for salt amp; brine to get in between, they don#39;t rust as much and are not as fragile over time...retaining their longevity. There#39;s a reason you don#39;t see drilled/slotted rotors often on everyday vehicles, let alone on vehicles in areas with winter the majority of the year.

Regular OEM Slotted Rotors or Aftermarket Slotted Rotors?.

Slotted rotors do not improve any heat transfer. However, the slots can improve brake output by removing gas and dust that is trapped between the pad and rotor. This gas and dust reduces the friction force by preventing the pad from fully contacting the rotor.

May 27, 2013 I set them side by side and noticed a couple differences. The aftermarket ones had the fins more spaced apart than the OEM ones. Also, each side of the rotor was thicker on the OEM ones. The guy at Oreilly#39;s said that the aftermarket ones breath/vent better. I would think the aftermarket ones would warp faster with thinner material. Thoughts?. Jan 30, 2012 i#39;ve always been extremely skeptical of performance rotors, especially oem ones or oem-like ones that are just drilled and slotted and marked up 200 bucks. my issue with them is that they are weakening an oem rotor by drilling it. the company including adams rotors, ecs, etc does not redesign the internal vanes for more efficient cooling or additional structural enhancements.

May 16, 2020 Vented Rotors. Vented rotors look like two rotor discs put together with space left in between. It is this space - the vents - that allows the rotor to get rid of extra heat and prevent undue brake fading. The big difference between vented and drilled and slotted rotors is that vented rotors are not necessarily drilled and slotted. Feb 02, 2010 Join Date: Apr 2009. Chapter/Region: TXIC. . Feb 11, 2009 Theyre usually louder. OEM brake rotors are usually smooth and flat, so when the pads contact the rotor, the contact is consistent. On drilled and/or slotted rotors, tiny breaks in contact where the pad momentarily breaks contact with the drilled or slotted out portion of the rotor leads to noise. Theyre dusty. In addition to that, slotted rotors tend to have a larger surface area, which allows the brake pads to come into contact with the rotor for an extended period; this results in more friction. A more significant friction coefficient allows the pad to bite down more effectively with the same amount of power, which you can sue on the drilled rotor.

. Jan 09, 2009 Has for the slotted and cross drilled rotors I purchase, they practically ate the front oem pads in 6 months change them at the same time so I purchase the ceramic brake pads with lifetime warranty in Autozone, and so far the braking is exelent, and people is true, the ceramic pads does not get your rims dirty with brake dust, my rear rims. Sep 22, 2008 Many lightweight rotors have a wider air gap. A heavy duty rotor a narrower air gap and thicker wall. All the while the total thickness remains the same. The greater the rotors mass the better it manages heat by being a better heat sink. The down side is that too much mass and too narrow an air gap the longer it takes for the rotor to cool down.
